Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
Hi! I´m Edward from Sweden.
I bought a geiger g25 this summer from an old closed down furniture factory here in south Sweden.
It is the first one I have seen for sale in Sweden but seems like they are very common in Germany.
Unfortunately there is zero info outside Germany about this machines.
Luckily I found this forum.
I´m doing a full restoration on the machine, I have taken everything apart and repainting it.
I have also ordered some new bearings and a new belt.
I have some questions that I hope you could help me with.
1 - I got some schematics with it when I bought it but no manual or service manual, is those available? (english or german)
2 - I like to use my Oneway Stronghold chuck with it, do the 1½x6 adapter work with some modifications?
3 - The tool rest seems to be a od size? 32mm? I was thinking maybe a brass sleeve 32mm to 1 inch? Or is there 32mm tool rests available?
4 - Is there a way to see how old the lathe is?
There is most likely be more questions done the line
Here is some pictures:
I hope its ok that I write in English! Like I said its really hard to find info on these machines outside Germany.
If you want to answer in German that is fine, google translate works ok
Thanks!

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
The toolrest may be either 32 mm or 1 1/4" (which is close, but not quite the same). You'd need to measure with a caliper to be sure.
In the first picture I even see the optional outboard turning bed. Nice!

Oh ok! I will check next time I´m in the workshop. There was a lot of accessories with it (outboard bed and copy carriage) but only one tool rest
unfortunately :( I think they did run it as a copy lathe in the factory. It even has a dowel accessory that bolts on to the carriage.

I think I emailed them and the said that that is just the standard 1½x6 from oneway, not with the 40mm register at the back?

Servus Markus,

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
I was in the workshop today and measured the tool post, it was 32mm spot on.
Is there any 32mm tool rest available or is a sleeve / bushing the only option?
I only find 30mm on google.
Painted the bed and did reassemble the tail stock today.

No body knows if 32mm tool rests exists? What do other g25 users do?
Some progress:
Found some damage on the motor pulley, luckily they made an OK job fixing it:

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
Hello,
I would run the motor over a frequency inverter. Then you do not need the damaged pulley and can use the smaller diameter pulley. It makes live much easier if you can set any RPM. Be happy that you have a 32mm tool-rest. You can easy adapt smaller diameters but the larger diameter gives more stability.

Hi Edward,
Stadler may be a source for toolrests but you can also ask our colleage and forum member Jockel. His toolrest are well known and appreciated for strength and usability.
His homepage is only in German as fas as I see but he may be able to help you also in English.
You can find his custom made toolrests here: http://jmader.de/entwicklungen/handaufl ... timierung/
He might also be a good source for especially adapted frequency changers.
Vänliga Hälsningar

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
I did actually email standler about a month ago with the same questions I have asked here. Manual, spare parts and so on.
Never got an answer
Those Jockel tool rests looks very nice! I will contact him.
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much!
I will probably upgrade to a frequency drive in the future but I want to run the lathe a bit first.
When you install a frequency drive on a g25 do you have to remove the break?

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
Hi Edward,
I am not a Geiger specialist but as far as I know the brake is activated with a lever. You may also be able to set , adjust or activate/deactivate the brake ramp on the VFD.
So you could use either the mechanic or VFD brake, but I do not know if their could be an interference. In this cases I am sure Jockel is the one to ask. VFDs on Geigers are common and it should be no rocket science.
Regards,
Manfred

Re: Geiger g25 in Sweden (english)
Hello,
typical you use a ramp in the FU to increase and decrease/Stop the RPM. However this might require an additional break resistor on the FU. You can still leave the manual brake on the machine but you will not need it often.

Thanks guys!
I have a new question. I forgot to look how the front bearing was mounted (7212) when I removed it.
I checked the skf website how they recommend installing it,
I´m i correct that the arrow should be to the front of the lathe?

Been a while since I last posted here.
Almost done with the rebuild now, only small stuffs to do.
How do you other geiger owners level your lathe?

Hi
You did an very nice Job. Place the small Lathe on an concrete base and srew it tightly.
Or Level it with screws and nuts on a first base, and then cast with concrete the final base.
